Photography Competition & Exhibition: "Minivan Ufaa"
The Ministry of Home Affairs and the United Photographers Association (NGO) proudly present the Photography Competition on the theme of “Minivan Ufaa.” This collaborative initiative aims to celebrate the vibrant spirit of independence in the Maldives and encourage photographers, both amateur and professional, to capture the diverse aspects of this theme. Through the lens of their cameras, participants will have the opportunity to showcase the cultural celebrations, natural landscapes, historical landmarks, traditional practices, underwater wonders, beaches, and overall happiness and the independence that defines Maldivian society. Join us in this exciting competition to express your creativity and share your unique perspectives on the essence of independence in the Maldives.
Theme: Minivan Ufaa
Submission Deadline: 15 July 2023
Eligibility: This competition is open to all Maldivian citizens aged 18 years and above, regardless of their photography background. Whether you are a hobbyist photographer, amateur, or professional, residing in Maldives, you are welcome to participate.
Number of Entries: Participants can submit up to three (3) photographs.
Capture the essence of independence in Maldives through your photographs. Showcase the diversity and beauty of the country, highlighting various aspects such as:
Cultural Celebrations: Depict vibrant festivals, food traditional dances, or cultural events that celebrate the spirit of independence.
Natural Landscapes: Explore the breathtaking natural beauty of Maldives, Including stunning seascapes, lush greenery, and island landscapes.
Underwater Wonders: Capture the mesmerizing underwater world surrounding the islands, including vibrant coral reefs, diverse marine life, and underwater activities.
Traditional Practices: Photograph traditional crafts, local customs, or rituals that showcase the rich cultural heritage and independence of the Maldivian people.
Beaches: Highlight the pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and idyllic coastal scenery that are synonymous with the Maldives.
Historical Landmarks: Showcase historical sites, monuments, or architecture that played a significant role in the country’s independence and heritage.
Technical Requirements
- File Format: JPEG or PNG
- Resolution: Minimum 3000 pixels on the longest side
- File Size: Minimum 3MB - Maximum 10M
Meet the Judges
These experienced photographers, known for their unique styles and artistic vision, will bring their expertise to the judging process. With their deep understanding of Maldivian culture and landscapes, they will carefully evaluate the submissions and select the photographs that best represent the theme of “Minivan Ufaa.”
Judging Criteria
Relevance to the theme (30 Marks):
How well the photograph captures the essence of independence in Maldives.
Composition (20 Marks):
The visual arrangement and balance of elements within the frame.
Technical Excellence (20 Marks):
Image quality, lighting, focus, and overall technical proficiency.
Creativity and Originality (30 Marks):
Unique perspective, artistic interpretation, or innovative approach.
Prizes
Prizes for the winners will receive cash rewards in two categories
The first prize winner receives MVR 15,000, the Second prize 2 winners receive MVR 7,000, Third prize 3 winners receive MVR 3,000. The judges will select their favorite images for the exhibition, showcasing the exceptional talent and artistry of the chosen participants. All winners will be granted the opportunity for exhibition and publication.
Exhibition and Display
Award winning photos and selected photos will be exhibited in (National Art Gallery Maldives on 29th to 30th July 2023). One the same day an (Online exhibition) will run on UPA website with the winning and selected photographs.
Usage Rights​
By participating in the competition, participants grant the organizers the right to use their submitted photographs for promotional purposes, with due credits to the photographer for a period of 5 years.
Disqualification
Any submission that violates copyright laws of Maldives, contains inappropriate content, Watermarks and fails to meet the technical requirements will be disqualified.
- United Photographers Association (NGO)
The United Photographer of Maldives (UPA) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the Maldives. Our primary objective is to promote, support, and develop the local photography industry. By fostering a network among Maldivian photographers, we aim to facilitate the free exchange of ideas, perspectives, and creative work. UPA strives to create a vibrant community where photographers can connect, collaborate, and inspire one another. Through various initiatives, workshops, and exhibitions, we encourage skill development, artistic expression, and professional growth within the photography field. Our vision is to elevate the Maldives’ photography scene and showcase its immense talent on a global platform.
